Selkirk, Scotland

Old Wooden Fence of Lindean Loch

When I think of Scotland, I think of the place where my ancestors thrived. A place they called home and fought to protect. Deep in my heart, I feel a longing to go and see where my family came from, much like Buck felt in Jack London's "The Call of the Wild." As an older woman, I like the idea of a quiet and picturesque place with a view of lush, green fields, and cobblestone streets.

Ultimately, I think I would settle in Selkirk. If it was good enough for William Wallace, then it's good enough for me. I want to secure a small farmhouse with a few acres of land for a vegetable garden. I imagine my dogs running freely beside me on long walks through the countryside, bike rides, and visiting the coffee shops located at the town’s center with my husband. And should I miss the modern amenities, I feel comfort in knowing that there are cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow just a short freeway drive away.
